Cinematic Pop: Classical and Mainstream Music Converge

Arizona musician Rob Gardner wants to put orchestral music back in the mainstream.

To lauch his new project, “Cinematic Pop,” – which he describes as a new genre of music- he has released two videos that showcase iconic songs arranged for large choirs and orchestras.

Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol and Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana are performed by a 50-piece orchestra and 60-person choir.

Gardner’s intention is to introduce a younger generation to the world of classical music. “For many years, classical music concert attendance has been in decline. By fusing iconic pop songs with the best elements of classical cinematic film score composition, we can bring new audiences to classical concert halls.”
